Buyers not the problem
I currently give less than 5 stars more often than not and have no intention of changing my ways.

I think the issue is that ebay needs to amend the way they work with detailed feedback.

I only give 5 stars out for exceptional sellers. More often than not, my ebay experience as a buyer meets expectations, yet some sellers go the extra mile with better communication, nicer wrapping, weekend service, etc.

Like that IMA is raising awareness of the issue but I think you need to petition eBay rather than convincing buyers, especially since you won't be able to get through to every buyer.

Star Sytem is OK but the interpretation needs revision.
Firstly there is no such thing as "Very Accurate" the most anything can be is Accurate. Similarly for "Very Satisfied". I have had one item hand delivered the next day after the order. How can I give him 5 stars for speed and the rest the same? One company sent photos of the items being packed and threw in an extra garment for free. How can I give them 5 stars and the rest the same.

Thanks for the excellent writeup about the DSR system, and how buyers can end up penalizing even sellers with whom they were pleased. I'm adding a link to it to the email I send buyer when their item is shipped.

P.S. - This comment section needs some cleanup; seems a lot of the buyers stumbling onto it think they are leaving feedback for their sellers HERE. (Sigh) It may just not be possible to explain feedback to some folks!

It is very difficult to rate the "communications" section when there was no communication necessary. You should have a "not applicable" choice.

:-D I enjoyed the article about ebay's DSRs and the negative effects of a 4-star rating. I thought I had read the entire blurb ebay sent regarding the new rating system, but as a buyer I did not know of these repercussions to the seller receiving 4 stars. Everything you said was correct; we do think of 4 stars as pretty darn good (although I will say I have given less than 5 stars only twice, and once I now wish I hadn't). I imagine many other buyers like me will also appreciate this information for when we consider future ratings! Thanks for a good article!

sellers need a site to list scam buyers!
I think sellers need a site where we can list buyers who clearly just want to get the items at a discount or free and hold feedback over our heads. Simple mistakes that do not impact the item should not require a seller to give the item away. If the mail takes longer than usual for some reason because of holidays or snow... I don't mind giving honest buyers a partial refund when it's my fault, but I also want to be able to offer a simple apology for something small that doesn't impact the item without getting negative feedback. I would like to be able to block buyers who scam ebay sellers before I have to go through the hassle of dealing with them!

I am extremely happy with the whole process. I was informed of the current status from the time I ordered to the time it was shipped. The product came within the five days as promised. I love the product; the quality was everything I had hoped for. Will definately use them again!!!
